1. Climate Change and Water Management - CSCE National Lecture Tour (NLT) on 6:30-8:30pm, Thursday, 15 April 2010 at Simon Fraser University Harbour Centre Campus, Downtown Vancouver
This presentation focuses on using a systems approach in addressing the practical issues related to climate change and its impact on water resources management. The research on Upper Thames Basin with respect to the City of London, Ontario will be presented as a case study on the assessment of climate change impacts on municipal infrastructure.

This lecture will also present two real-life examples. The first example is aimed at answering the question - how do the expected paths of climate, environmental, and economic variables change when feedbacks between the economy and the environment are more fully modelled. The proposed approach provides for improved representations of the physical processes involved in the climate system and carbon cycle, and includes the socio-economic sectors. The second example will deal with the question - what are the impacts of climate change on water resources management on a local scale.

The presentation is being delivered by Dr. Slobodan P. Simonovic, Director of Engineering Studies at Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction, University of Western Ontario. He has over thirty years of research, teaching, and consulting experience in water resources engineering and management. Dr. Simonovic has authored over 300 professional publications and one major textbook.

4. Operational Modal Analysis - Workshop in October 2010
CSCE Vancouver Section, in collaboration with the CSCE National and international partners, is offering a 3.5 day course on Operational Modal Analysis (OMA). This workshop was very well received in its previous offerings in various international locations.

The workshop will teach the participants the methods, techniques, and tools used to measure, analyze, and infer on ambient dynamic vibrations of structural members and assemblies in a hands-on manner with real-life applications.

The intended audience includes structural engineers in the practices of seismic, aerospace, and mechanical engineering. The half day at the end of the course (fourth day) consists of trips to field sites in the BC Lower Mainland.

A detailed explanation of the Operational Modal Analysis approach can be found in the organizing partner's website

We are presently in the planning phases - please stay tuned to the Events section of our website for further updates -
