1. New Local Section Executive Committee for 2009-2010

The CSCE Vancouver Section Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on held on Monday,1 June 2009, at the University of British Columbia, Civil and Mechanical Engineering Building, Room CEME 1202, elected the following Executive Committee for the term 2009-2010.

2. Seminar on New 2009 Steel Design Code CSA-S16-09

 

 

This 1-day seminar will be a thorough examination of the newest edition of CSA Standard S16-09 to be the reference structural steel design standard for the NBCC 2010.

The 2009 Edition contains numerous additions to the Standard that deal with new seismic systems (e.g., restrained buckling bracing systems, protected zones), design of single angles in various situations, more detail for laterally unrestrained beams, new material for infill plates with perforations, and new Annexes on topics such as Design to prevent brittle fracture and Structural design for fire conditions (now a procedure permitted by the NBCC).

3. Workshop on Top 10 Targets to Improve Construction Productivity in Spring 2010

 

 

CSCE National is developing a workshop on improving the industry bottom-line through ways to enhance construction productivity. The content is based on past extensive research of ICI construction sites and seeks to increase effectiveness on such issues as worker motivation and satisfaction, best practice guidelines on supervision, efficient materials management, tool-time improvement, strategies for communication technology, and change management. Please stay tuned for further developments.

 

 

4. Seminar on Soil-Structure Interaction in Spring 2010

 

 

CSCE is going to co-host with SEABC a seminar on soil-structure interaction with a seismic focus in the spring of 2010. Please stay tuned for further developments.
