1. UBC Professional Night on 7-10 PM, WED, 4 March 2009

The CSCE UBC Student Chapter invites you and your organization to the CSCE UBC Professional Night 2009, which is, by tradition, a socialization event among Civil Engineering professionals and students alike.The purpose of this event is to give professionals an opportunity to network and discuss career paths with the students. The event also allows students to develop a better understanding of the Civil Engineering industry. Last year’s event saw close to one hundred engineers and as many students in attendance.


Time and Date: 7-10 PM, Wednesday, 4 March 2009
Venue: Civil Design Studio, Civil/Mechanical Engineering Building (CEME-1005), UBC Campus


Open to anyone related to the field of Civil Engineering with-
Free Admission, Free Light Refreshments & Cash Bar!

2. Structural Masonry Design Seminar on Victoria, 8 AM-12 noon, FRI, 13 March 2009

 

The CSCE Vancouver Island Section and the Masonry Institute of BC (MIBC) are organizing the Masonry Design Seminar, especially for the benefit of practicing Structural Engineers and Technologists. This seminar covers the new
Guide to Seismic Design of Low- and Medium-Rise Masonry Buildings in Canada
A CD-copy of the new Guide will also be provided to all the attendees.

The seminar is being presented by
Bill McEwen, PEng, LEED AP- Executive Director of the Masonry Institute of BC
and
Svetlana Brzev, PhD, PEng- Author and Faculty Member in the BCIT.

3. Other Upcoming Stuffs
  • Our efforts to ogranize a CSCE Golf Tournament in the summer of 2009 are ongoing. We will keep you posted with the details as they develop.
  • Attached is a draft brochure for the seminar entitled Recent Advances in Bridge Engineering and Structural Health Monitoring being organized by the CSCE National in Vancouver during 19-20 May. Please note that instead of two separate seminars in Vancouver and Victoria as mentioned in the brochure, there is going to be only one seminar in Vancouver during 19-20 May, 2009.
