2. BC Schools Outreach Initiative
A member of the CSCE Vancouver Section Executive and Professor of Civil Engineering in the UBC, Dr Carlos Ventura has been volunteering in the past to develop methods and guidelines for the seismic retrofit of school buildings in BC. We thought there is an opportunity to build on that relationship by offering to send "goodwill ambassadors" to the schools during the spring/summer time.

Each year, groups of junior and high school students from across BC participate in arranged trips to universities to learn about different career aspects. This time, we are contemplating sending groups of Civil Engineers, on behalf of the CSCE, to schools to offer presentations on various facets and prospects of a career in Civil Engineering. Such presentations could include anything related to your job, company projects, and other related tips and tricks to help garner a positive impression of the Civil Engineering profession in BC.

Please come forward with your great ideas and volunteer spirits and the CSCE Vancouver will do whatever it can to make it happen. We may be able to cost-share and we will definitely liaise with the Ministry of Education, government bodies, APEGBC and other similar socieites to facilitate such goodwill trips.

We look forward to hearing from you in this interesting venture at:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
